4 sound preview

I choose 4 sounds at random. The first is one of my ambient machine hum sounds.

I created this sound using a 2 different humming machines I found on freesound.org. After I cut them down significantly, I adjusted the EQ and faded in and out to match the original sound.

The second sound is my capture sound from the KH folder, which I assume is a capture the flag mode.

For this sound I took a key jangle sound, reversed it and added a delay effect. I put that on the left channel, and added an 808 bass drop on the right channel, which I used in all the KH files to give a sense of unity.

My third sound is the hookbomb impact.

For this sound I took a gunshot sound, lowered the pitch and boosted the bass, to give a good explode-y impact sound. I added in a gravel texture, to give the effect of rubble.

The fourth sound is my UZI fire.

I took a gunshot sound, made it more pingy by increasing the high end, and then added the original shell drop back in. I adjusted the EQ on the shell case drop as well.

Soundtrack

https://myspace.com/knightsoftheseverniad/music/song/new-requiem-19447722-19248907?play=1

I'm choosing a song I created to be the game's intro msuic. I used Cubase, Guitar Rig 2, and Akoustic Piano. I think my track fits with Nexuiz because it's both heavy-hitting with driving double bass and atmospheric with synth and melodic guitar riffs. The synth breakdown near the middle of the song has a very futuristic spacey feel, coupled with the fast paced chorus riff afterwards invokes the fast paced first-person shooter action of the actual gameplay.

As far as the other songs, I don't really have anything that I've composed that really fits. So I'll have to find something in a free liscense library that fits both my composition and the feel of the game.

Cutscene Analysis

The cutscene I chose to analyze is from the game League of Legends which I discussed in an earlier blog post. Riot released the following cinematic, "A Twist of Fate." at the start of the 3rd season to increase public interest and to showcase some of the graphical updates for the game. The scene depicts a battle between a few different heroes from the game, namely Twisted Fate, a card throwing rogue, Fiddlesticks, a demonic scarecrow, and Garen, a stalwart knight. Graphically the cutscene is stunning, in opposition to the rather lackluster graphical capabilities of the game itself, as LoL is known to be able to be played on basically anything with a graphics card.

The soundtrack and sound effects for the scene however are very nice as well. You can tell Riot didn't take the easy path and use existing sound effects from the game; the whole scene was scored exclusively. I particularly like the sounds they engineered for the crowstorm ability Fiddlesticks uses near the beginning, and the grunts and groans from the warriors. Those effects in addition the unique score lends to the epic feel of the battle. All in all I really enjoyed this cutscene when it was released, and now watching it with a particular focus on sound I realize why I liked it so much in the first place.
